Administrative Reorganization in July

Isabel Hernandez was appointed as the College Director of Learning Resources and will supervise Learning Resources at the InterAmerican Campus.

The MDC Learning Resource areas were reorganized with the appointment of a Campus Director to supervise both the campus library and computer courtyard.

Here are the appointments for the new Campus Directors for Learning Resources:
• Estrella Iglesias, North Campus
• Erick Dominicis, Kendall Campus
• Rolando Garcia, Wolfson Campus
• Elisa Abella, Medical Campus
• Linda Saumell, Homestead Campus
• Glenda Phipps, Hialeah Campus

Here are the appointments so far for the position of Associate Director of Learning Resources:
• Theodore Karantsalis, Meek Center
• Isreal Sanchez, MDC-West
• Ivan Toledo, Medical Campus

Our Campus Director for Learning Resources, Estrella Iglesias, also has supervision over the Meek Center and MDC-West. She has been actively working to increase student instruction and library usage as well as focusing our efforts here at the North Campus Library on weeding the collection.

Spotlight Web Site: Study Guides and Strategies

Spotlight Database: Technology & Beyond

Are technology, engineering, and science your game? If so, get some answers to your calculating questions with North Campus' applied technology databases.

Found under the subject heading of "Computers and Technology" once you log in, these four full-text databases can get you information on everything technical from aeronotics to machine design to world oil issues. Below is an overview of what is available.

Applied Science and Technology Full Text
From Wilson:
Periodical coverage includes 575 trade and industrial publications, journals issued by professional and technical societies, and specialized subject periodicals, as well as special issues such as buyers' guides, directories, and conference proceedings.

Computer Database
From Gale:
Offers access to today's most well-read and influential periodicals on the computer, telecommunications and electronics industries.

InfoTrac Vocation, Careers & Technical Education eCollection
From Gale:
A customized selection of journals selected by your institution powered by InfoTrac. Learn about career, education, and industry news.

Wilson Science Complete
From Wilson:
Offers the complete content of three science-oriented databases at one time: Applied Science and Technology Full Text, Biological & Agricultural Index Plus, and General Science Full Text can be accessed simultaneously with a single search. Includes full text and abstracts for a wide range of scientific and general interest publications.

The North Campus Library offers these and many more electronic databases for student use. These can be accessed from any Internet computer, even off-campus. All you need is your student ID number; the PIN is the last four digits of that number. Make sure "Miami Dade College" appears in the drop down menu. When in the library, ask the reference librarian how to use the databases, or call the reference desk at 305-237-1183 for assistance.
